The book of Romans proclaims the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ by teaching doctrine and it edifies all believers who would read this letter. In short, the subject of the message is Salvation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In this series will answer such questions as: What happens to people who have never heard about Jesus? How can guilty sinners ever be righteous before a holy God? Why do Christians still sin? And the grand question of all time, Why are some saved and others not?
Romans 1:8-17.
After a brief introduction (Romans 1:1-7), Paul shared his inspiration for his life work and writings. Here are three of them. No matter your career, your age or your daily schedule, these same three motivations could direct our lives as much as they did Paul’s.
Romans 1:18- 3:24.
Today’s most spectacular passage in Romans has been bullied upon the heads of many, while the application is intended to be made closer to home. The Bible always applies best to the reader. We can argue about who is “most under God’s wrath”, but the end is the same: we are under God’s wrath. This dark text today on humankind's failures sounds like a shadowy tunnel, only to brighten all the more when the “but he died for us” takes over. Let’s assure our faith in Jesus Christ and then live humbly, and grateful before the Lord.
Romans 3:21-31; Romans 4:1-25
The truth of being brought back into a relationship with God is a super important theology. Therefore, the concept brings in a fantastic legal term. Here it is, justification is a divine act whereby God makes humans - who are sinful and therefore worthy of condemnation- acceptable before a God who is holy and righteous. After all that sin talk of 1:18-3:20, this is some especially good news! But is it to you?
These chapters are incredible (we are still in 3:21-5:21; Justification)! Let's three salient points about grace as it pertains to our lives. There is a contagious joy and freedom about this text that I hope we all catch. Exhausted in life? Do you feel as though if you pause from life, that it would stop and slip backwards? Feeling a little tension? Don’t worry; Grace Super-Abounds!
Wow. 3:21-5:21 is fantastic. Through faith in Jesus, we have been declared not guilty and righteous. Through faith in Jesus we are reconciled back to God thanks to his grace, and now we can live as we were originally created to live.
As we all head out of the courtroom- fully justified before God (3:21-5:21), Keep knowing that you are saved by grace, keep reckoning that you are dead to sin and keep yielding yourself to do good (chapter 6) and ….before you go… understand that our relationship with the law/ rules of God have changed tremendously. Here are three topics that deliver us from the weight of the law, and set us all the more be free in our loving and forgiving relationship with God.
The salvation that we received by God’s grace is so fantastic and complex, that Paul can’t help but to unpack it all the more. God’s grace gave us a relationship with Himself… which includes a ton of amazing freedoms. There is no need for believer in Jesus to sulk, we have freedoms galore! A little worn out today? Are you feet dragging a bit? Can’t believe you actually got out of bed today? Welcome to Romans chapter eight. Have a seat, buckle up and enjoy!
The brilliance and brightness of chapter eight becomes sad and darkened in chapter nine. Life is full of difficult questions. If you are a bit perplexed about life these days, confused as to God’s choices for your life, allow Paul’s teachings about Israel to bring some clarity to your own troubling life concerns.
We cannot simply camp out in the doctrine of election from Romans nine, because it is followed by Romans ten. The reason these chapters are back to back is that Paul knew from the beginning that this chosen and free question would be of issue. While we will look into the subject, hash out a realistic view, we must be careful to conclude by majoring on majors. Let’s conclude today by confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Let’s also take seriously the command to go and tell others.
While we are sitting at the kitchen table talking, we find ourselves discussing Israel and specifically the question “Has God given up on Israel?. They were first called “God’s Chosen People” 4,000 years ago, and these days they are a world power. Today we are provided three thoughts as to whether God is finished with Israel. In addition (and most importantly), the chapter ends with some great advice for how we are to face the uncertainties of the future.
We face major challenges, such as; career choice, late payments, what to o with a wayward child, and the list continues. From the successful handling of these challenges we need big picture direction. Challenges will continue and yet our next steps will stay the same. There has never been such a critically placed “Therefore”… and it will always be critically relevant.
The infamous Romans Road. Not the physical one of the 4th century BC, that consisted of 50,000 miles of rock paved roads… and remember, all roads leads to Rome. But today’s Romans Road is a collection of verses from the biblical book of Romans that can lead people on the road to salvation. Study it, learn it, follow it and most of all share it with others.
