I suppose the Bible could have started with “In the beginning, the earth was without form and void”, or if you are a SYFI fan, “In the beginning in a land far, far away”, but rather, Genesis 1:1 starts off “In the beginning, God”. God is the framework within which we read the entire Bible.
I want to suggest four words that are even better.
Sound a little heretical? Well, I mean it. I have four words that have an even greater significance for you today. I am all for “In the beginning, God”, but if we could make just one gentle change. It would be even more personally fantastic.
Are you ready for it? Here it is, “In the beginning, you”.
Do you get it? Whenever the name “God” is in the sentence, then we are talking about God rather than to God. There is remarkable significance to the Bible’s “In the beginning, God”. However, we must not stop there. Let’s keep talking about him, but even more importantly, let’s talk to him.
Even right now, turn to him. Talk directly to God and make sure he is squarely on the throne of your life. Give him your day, your worries, your talents and plans and when you turn to him, you can start by saying “Wow, in the beginning, you created the heavens and the earth!”
We can talk directly to God! Thanks to the generous sacrifice of Jesus Christ we, by faith alone, can enjoy a relationship with God- the creator!
It is one thing to say “In the beginning, God”, it is another to speak to God by saying “In the beginning, you”. Will you take a moment right now?
Dear heavenly Father, Because of my faith in your only son, Jesus Christ, I
am able to say to you right ‘In the beginning you created the heavens and
the earth’. Thank you for being my God, my hope, my confidence and life. I
trust you with today’s greatest concerns, I trust you with today’s greatest
challenges and even my greatest joys. Please stay on the throne of my life
and make me into the person you want me to be. Only in Jesus Name I
pray, Amen.
Isn’t that fantastic?
