Psalm 119 is really long. It is an acrostic Psalm. There are 22 Hebrew letters, but Psalm 119 is much longer than 22 verses. There are 8 verses per letter of the Hebrew alphabet (kind of an acrostic Psalm on steroids). But do not be too intimidated, it only takes 15-20 minutes to read (shorter than an episode of Gilligan’s Island). Psalm 119 is devoted to a very special topic, God’s Word.
This huge Psalm celebrates God’s Word to us (also named in the Psalm as Gods covenant, instructions, precepts, statutes, testimonies, commandments).
I know that we all use various support mechanisms to get ourselves through the challenges of life. We lean on people friends and counselors while others find days away as a means to gain balance and rejuvenation. Out of the vast array of life helps, one particular helps supersedes them all. The beauty and clarity of God’s Word. Some things are good, but Gods word is priceless (“The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces” Psalm 119: 72).
God’s Word is a reflection of God’s character itself. Notice these attributes of God ascribed to Scripture in Psalm 119:
Righteousness (verses 7, 62, 75, 106, 123, 144, 160, 164, 172)
Trustworthiness (verse 42)
Truthfulness (verses 43, 142, 151, 160)
Faithfulness (verse 86)
Unchangeableness (verse 89)
Eternality (verses 90,152)
Light (verse 105)
To only name a few.
So what do you need today? The answer is God’s Word.
God's Word is "a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105 ESV).
